April and May Update
Pedder Bay Marina - April 8, 2008Make sure you stay on top of the regs! As of April 1 the regulations are as follows:
- Chinook
- 45 cm – 67 cm wild and hatchery
- Over 67 hatchery only
This regulation is over May 15th. Stay tuned for any further regulation changes.
- Halibut
- Daily quota: 1
- Possession: 2
On June 1st the possession will go up to 2 for the remainder of the season.
Fishing
Chinook fishing has been doing ok for last little while. There are a few hatchery fish caught over the magical 67 cm size. Most success has been found using hardware like hootchies and Coyote spoons.
Halibut fishing
Most of the boats going out lately have been concentrating on halibut. It seems most of the success has been had fishing closer to shore in 150–200 feet deep. I personally went out looking off of Constance Bank and got skunked while those closer to shore came home with fish.
Good tides for halibut in the next month and a half are as follows:
- April 15th to 19th. The 15th the tide is in the morning by the 19th the tide is in the afternoon.
- April 30th to May 4th same again of the 30th try the morning tide as the days go on the flatter tide flow moves into the afternoon
- May 13th to 16th First day in the morning and last in the afternoon
- May 29th all through the day
- May 30th in the afternoon
- May 31st in the afternoon
We have been busy this winter tuning up the rental boats and putting the new motors on the boats. All the down riggers have been tuned up and we are ready to go. Come on down rent a boat and get out there and get a salmon for the BBQ.
Tight Lines,
